How to Find Sequels and Series You Haven't Finished
Almost everyone has one: a series where you loved part one, bought part two in a sale, and never started it. Continuing a series is the easiest win in gaming: you already know you like it, you know the controls, and the story is waiting.
The problem: nobody tracks series
Libraries on Steam, PlayStation and Xbox sort by title or by last played, not by franchise. So a sequel sits three pages away from the game it continues, and the pile quietly grows. A series list changes that: it starts from games you finished and shows what comes next.
How the Series tab works in NXTO
- Mark the games you've finished as Completed.
- Open Discover and switch to the Series tab.
- For the finished games that belong to a series, you'll see the other entries — sequels, prequels and spin-offs — that you haven't played yet.
- Add what you're missing to your backlog in one click.
The more games you mark as Completed, the more series appear. If a game isn't listed, it either isn't part of a known series or isn't in the catalogue yet.
Which order should you play?
- Release order is the safe default for story-driven series, because the creators wrote for people who played the earlier games.
- Chronological order works for a few series with prequels, but often spoils twists.
- Standalone entries (many JRPGs and sports-adjacent series) can be started anywhere. Start with the highest rated.
- Remakes replace the original. Play the remake unless you collect classics.
Why this beats starting something new
New games cost you the “will I like it?” gamble. A sequel to a game you rated 5 stars has the best odds of any game in your backlog. If you are stuck choosing, an unfinished series is a very good default — we explain the others in how to choose what to play next.
Wondering about length? Check the estimate first; a long series can be a commitment, and HowLongToBeat data helps you plan it.
