Game Recommendation Tools for Your Steam Library Compared (SteamPeek, 50GamesLike, Steam Recommender, NXTO)

October 2026 · 6 min read

"Recommend me games based on my Steam library" sounds like one problem, but there are three different ways tools solve it: look up games similar to one title, blend a few favourites, or learn from your whole library. This guide explains which tool does which, so you can pick the right one in a minute.

Short answer: use SteamPeek or 50GamesLike for a quick lookup from a game you already love; use Steam’s own recommender if you never want to leave the store; use NXTO when you want picks built from your own library, ratings and backlog — and similar-game lookup on every game page without an account.

Descriptions of other tools reflect how they work as of October 2026 and are simplified — check each site for its current features.

The tools at a glance

SteamPeek

Best for: blending several favourite Steam games and discovering lesser-known titles with filters.

Limits: it is a lookup, not a tracker — it does not know which games you finished, rated or already own unless you tell it each time.

50GamesLike

Best for: typing one title and getting a list of similar games, fast.

Limits: one game at a time, no knowledge of your library.

Steam Interactive Recommender

Best for: Valve’s own recommendations, based on your Steam play history, right inside the store.

Limits: Steam games only, only inside Steam, no backlog tracking or mood search.

NXTO

Best for: recommendations from your library: import your Steam library, mark what you finished and rate it, and get picks that skip everything you own. Also: similar games for any title, a mood-based AI pick, unfinished series, and a backlog tracker.

Limits: it learns from games you mark Done and rate, so the first picks improve as you rate more games. Blending several games into one query is not its focus — use a similar-game page for each favourite instead.

What each tool is built from

How NXTO finds similar games

Every game has a set of tags. Two games are similar when they share tags, and rare defining tags (for example "Roguelike Deckbuilder") count more than generic ones like "Singleplayer" — standard inverse-document-frequency weighting. Public game pages list the 10 closest games. In the app, the Similar button opens a longer list and marks which ones you already own.

How NXTO recommends from your library

  1. Import: sign in with Steam and import your owned games with playtime (Steam "Game details" must be Public).
  2. Teach it: mark the games you finished as Done and rate them.
  3. Get picks: genres and tags are weighted by your ratings, series you like get a boost, games you own or hid are excluded. Filter by genre, length and platform.
  4. Optional — Ask AI: describe a mood ("something short and cozy") and get 2–3 picks with a reason written for your library. The first pick is free.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best tool to find games similar to my Steam library?

It depends on what you start from. If you want a quick lookup from one or two games and no account, SteamPeek or 50GamesLike are fast. If you want results based on your whole Steam library and what you actually finished, use a tool that imports your library — NXTO imports it with one click and builds picks from the games you marked Done and rated.

Is there a SteamPeek alternative that uses my own library?

Yes. NXTO imports your Steam library (Game details set to Public) and recommends from your finished and rated games, skipping what you already own. It also has a similar-games list on every game page that works without an account, which covers the same quick lookup SteamPeek is used for.

Does the official Steam recommender use my library?

Steam’s Interactive Recommender is built into the Steam store and uses your Steam play history. It only covers Steam games and only inside the store; it has no backlog tracking, mood search or cross-platform list.

Can I get game recommendations without creating an account?

Yes. Every game page on NXTO (nxto.app/games/{game}) lists similar games, and SteamPeek and 50GamesLike also work without an account. An account is only needed when you want recommendations built from your own library.
